About the Yamaha G2

The Yamaha G2 was produced and sold as a 1985 model and lasted until the 1992 model.

The electric model featured a 36V DC Motor powertrain. Yamaha G2 frames were made from tubular steel and feature a fully independent suspension.

The gasoline model featured a 4-stroke 285cc 8.5hp single-cylinder engine, which was said to be a copy of Yamaha’s motorcycle engines at the time.

Yamaha G2 Maintenance Schedule

Daily Maintenance

Yamaha recommends the following daily maintenance:

  • Yamaha G2 Batteries should be recharged daily.
  • With the cart off, check to ensure free movement and return of the accelerator pedal.
  • Listen for the “click” sound of the solenoid making good contact

Test the brakes, steering and tire pressure before using the cart each day as well.

Weekly Maintenance

Every week, 3 hours of usage, or 5 rounds of golf, Yamaha recommends the following maintenance:

Monthly Maintenance

Every month, 10 hours of usage, or 20 rounds of golf, Yamaha recommends the following maintenance:

  • Check around the wiring for loose or broken connections.
  • Check the specific gravity of the electrolyte in the battery.

Bi-Annual Maintenance

Every 6 months, 60 hours of usage, or 125 rounds of golf, Yamaha recommends the following maintenance:

  • Check the solenoid contacts on the starter
  • Check all battery cables and wiring for cracks and worn spots
  • Check the gearbox oil level and for leakage
  • Check for wear or damage around the parking brake
  • Check brake shoe lining thickness

Yearly Maintenance

Every year, 130 hours of usage, or 250 rounds of golf, Yamaha recommends the following maintenance:

  • Do a general check on the tightness of all bolts and nuts.
  • Check the chassis for signs of cracking and damage that may need to be welded.
  • Adjust the brake wire end play to tighten up slack
  • Check shock absorbers for oil leakage
  • Check for play in the rear axle housing
  • Check for play in the front wheel bearing
  • Check tire groove depth, and for checking in the sidewalls
  • Check play in the suspension kingpin
  • Adjust your alignment
    • 10-20mm or 0.4″ – 0.8″ of toe-in when the vehicle is unloaded

Ongoing Maintenance

Every 2 years, 250 hours of usage, or 500 rounds of golf, Yamaha recommends the following maintenance:

Every 4 years, 500 hours of usage, or 1000 rounds of golf, Yamaha recommends the following maintenance:

  • Check gearbox for grease leakage
    • 90cc engine takes 3.04 OZ of multi-type grease
    • Note this engine does not feature an oil filter
  • Check the brash and commutator of the traction motor
