History of the Highland Hybrid
The Toyota Highlander, or “Kluger” in Japan, is a mid-size 7-seat crossover SUV. It is built on the same platform as the Toyota Camry making it one of the first car-based SUV/crossovers.
The standard Highlander was released in 2001, where the Highlander Hybrid came later, first available to the market as a 2006 model.

The fourth generation Highlander Hybrid is a “series-parallel hybrid” featuring a 2.5L gasoline inline 4 cylinder engine producing 265hp and 309lb-ft torque.
For electric power, the Highlander Hybrid features 2 Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors capable of 54 hp each.
For the 2023 model year, a 2.4L turbocharged inline 4 cylinder engine replaces the 3.5L V6 option. The 2.4-liter unit has 30 less horsepower than the old 3.5L engine, but has 17% additional torque.
