Hyundai Tucson 12V Battery Replacement Cost
Given that the Hyundai Tucson HEV battery is adjacent to the traction battery and is unique, it is said to cost about $900 to replace, not including labor.
The Hyundai Tucson PHEV battery is significantly less, and can be had for around $250.
How to charge the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid 12V battery
Hyundai recommends that the vehicle be driven at least every two weeks to ensure the 12V system is properly charged. This is due to parasitic draw on the 12v bus, after all the microcontrollers go to sleep (about 10 minutes). This draw is less than 50mA, but can still wear down the 12V battery over time.
You can also charge the Hyundai Tucson with a normal 12V charger. If you remove the under-hood fuse/relay box cover you’ll notice posts that are tied together electrically, to which you can clamp the positive (+) cable. You can then ground to any convenient place nearby the box.
Something to keep in mind: Traditional jumper cables are typically designed to handle the high amperage load of a starter motor. However, in the case of a hybrid vehicle, we are only attempting to power the 12-volt bus and therefore do not require such heavy-duty cables. It is recommended to use cables with a gauge size no larger than 14 – small motorcycle battery clamps should be sufficient.
