History of the Fiat 500e
500e production started in 2013 and was discontinued the vehicle in 2020. A new model is debuting in 2024 in Europe, with a US model to follow.
The 500e was sold in the US states of California and Oregon as a “compliance car” to earn clean energy credits for Fiat Chrysler.
First Generation Fiat 500e
The first generation was an electric conversion of the existing internal combustion Fiat 500.
Second Generation Fiat 500e
The Fiat “New 500”, sold starting 2020, is a dedicated battery electric vehicle model sold in Europe, is often referred to colloquially as the 500e, although Fiat does not mention it as such in official marketing materials.

Drive Battery
The 2024 Fiat 500e will feature a 32 kWh lithium ion battery, delivering a WLTP-estimated all-electric range of 199 miles.
The 2013-2020 Fiat 500 electric is available in two different battery configurations; 24 kWh by default, with an optional 42 kWh battery available. As you can likely tell, the latter battery is a substantial upgrade and carries nearly double the charge capacity as the base battery, upping the range by around 87 miles per charge.

Drive Battery FAQ
How much does a Fiat 500e battery replacement typically cost?
Alot, if buying one from the factory. Estimates range from $20,000 to $30,000. Most first generation Fiat 500e owners tend not to replace their batteries, as it makes more sense to upgrade to another 500e, or simply purchase a used 500e with fewer miles, since a used 500e can be found for $4000-5000.
Where can I find a replacement drive battery for the 500e?
Of course, you can check wrecking yards for wrecked 500e to harvest their batteries or electric motors.
Ebay is also a great resource for used battery packs.
