About the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid
The Chrysler Pacifica PHEV debuted in 2017 and was the first of its class in the US. It is meant to be an electric vehicle that could feasibly be a family’s “primary vehicle”.
All Chrysler Pacifica Hybrids came in the Premium trim level.

In June 2017, Chrysler recalled 1,600 Pacifica Hybrid vehicles to fix the electronics.
Waymo announced that it had begun testing driverless cars without a safety driver at the driver position using the Pacifica plug-in.

The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid uses two different 12V batteries, 1 for accessories and to start the gasoline engine, the other an optional battery that came with the start/stop feature.

How to Replace the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid 12V Start/Stop Auxiliary Battery
Replacing this battery is fairly simple for the novice mechanic. You will want to source a new replacement battery prior to removing your old battery to ensure minimal downtime. Many part stores will require you to turn in your old battery as a core, so hang on to that receipt!
Parts Required:
- Group 400 battery (Amazon)
- Optional: Battery terminal replacements
Tools Required:
- 12V Battery Tester (Amazon)
- 10mm socket w/ socket wrench (Amazon)
- Medium to long socket extensions (Amazon)
- Torx E6 (Amazon)
Step by Step Instructions:
- Open the hood
- Using your 10mm socket wrench, disconnect the negative battery terminal on the MAIN battery
- Disconnect the top duct work for the air-intake system.
- Tip: Starting at the small front end, pull it upward and outward toward you, wiggling the duct out of the airbox
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal on the auxiliary battery
- Disconnect the positive battery terminal on the auxiliary battery
- Using the 10mm with extension, remove the battery hold down strap toward the front of the vehicle
- Remove the strap and set it out of the way
- To remove the battery itself, tilt the auxiliary battery backward, then up and out.
- Use the E6 torx bit to remove the posts from the old 12V battery and install them on the new battery
- Installation is the same order as removal.
- Make sure you test your new battery using the 12V tester prior to intallation.
Hybrid Start Stop (ESS) Fix
If your automatic start/stop feature in your Chrysler Pacifica is not working, or you are receiving a dash indicator message, it may be a sign that you need a new 12V auxiliary battery.

The Pacifica Hybrid features a 3.6 L Pentastar V6 gasoline engine that runs on regular unleaded fuel. Fuel economy for the gasoline engine alone is 32MPG, and 82MPGe with the hybrid system active.
