Polestar 1 Low-Voltage 12V Battery Testing, Maintenance and Repair
Battery testers are an inexpensive way to save yourself time in repairing your Polestar 1. A healthy 12V battery will read between 12.6 and 12.8 volts when tested. Anything lower, and you may want to consider replacing your batteries or checking the battery fluid levels.
How to charge the Polestar 1 low-voltage start battery
If the low-voltage battery is not properly charged, you will not be able to start your Polestar 1, nor will you be able to charge the high-voltage battery.
You can charge the Polestar 1 with a normal 12V charger. The battery is located in the trunk, to the left, behind an interior panel. Never connect a charger to a vehicle that is powered on.

Jump starting a Polestar 1
In order to start the Polestar 1, the 12V “start battery” must have an adequate charge – it is not enough to only have a charge on the hybrid battery.
Also, the start battery must have adequate power to be able to power the battery controller so that the hybrid battery can reliably accept a charge. You cannot charge your Polestar 1 if your 12V battery is weak or dead.
Since the battery is located in the trunk, you will need to have a physical key to gain access to the trunk, and the battery within.
Something to keep in mind: Traditional jumper cables are typically designed to handle the high amperage load of a starter motor. However, in the case of a hybrid vehicle, you are only attempting to power the 12-volt bus and therefore do not require such heavy-duty cables. It is recommended to use cables with a gauge size no larger than 14 – small motorcycle battery clamps should be sufficient.

Polestar 1 Drivetrain
The Polestar 1 AWD drivetrain uses the gasoline engine and 1 electric motor to power the front wheels, while 2 electric motors power the rear wheels. It is all controlled via “Dynamic Torque Vectoring” to deliver traction and stability.

Gasoline Engine
The internal combustion engine in the Polestar 1 is a high-performance inline 4-cylinder gasoline unit.
At low engine RPMs, a supercharger is used for forced induction. This minimizes turbo lag until the engine reaches 3,500 rpm, where the turbocharger takes over boost responsibilities.
