About the Yamaha Drive PTV / Fleet

PTV stands for Personal Transportation Vehicle. Yamaha makes some of the best. Over 60 years of precision engineering and technological innovations come together in this vehicle, offering you a fine way to get from point A to B.

In 2007, the Yamaha ‘Drive’ G29 golf cart was introduced, and stayed in production until the end of 2016. The G29A is gas powered, the G29E battery electric.

In 2017 Yamaha introduced the current model, the Drive2, which introduced QuieTech and an independent rear suspension system as an option in both the fleet and PTV models.

Yamaha Drive / Drive2 PTV Batteries

From 2007 – 2010 the Yamaha Drive G29E had four 12V batteries.

From 2011-2016 the Yamaha had six 8V batteries.

From 2017 onward, the Yamaha Drive2

The Tools You Need

  • Battery Lifting Strap (Amazon)
  • Insulated Socket Set (Amazon)
    • Non-conductive ratchet
    • 13mm
    • 7/16″
    • 1/2″
    • Extension
  • Insulated torque wrench (Amazon)
    • calibrated from 80-90 inch/lbs

    • 2007 – 2014 Drive – 4x Trojan T-1275 12V Lead Acid (eBay)
    • 2015 – 2016 Drive – 6x Trojan T-875 8V Lead Acid (eBay)
    • 2017+ Drive2 – 3x Trojan GC2 48V Lithium-Ion (eBay)
  • Battery cables

Step-by-Step Instructions

Please follow all safety precautions before proceeding with any battery replacement. These instructions are for information purposes. Only qualified technicians should attempt battery replacement.

  1. Put on safety glasses and cut resistant, voltage-resistant gloves
  2. Prepare the car
    1. Turn ignition key to off position
    2. Ensure brake it set
    3. Set run switch to tow mode
  3. Remove the seat and clean out any dirt and debris
  4. Ensure the batteries are switched to the off position, if your battery has such a switch
  5. Remove the positive battery terminals
  6. Remove the negative battery terminals
  7. Disconnect the main positive terminal
  8. Remove the battery hold-down rack
  9. Remove the batteries from the vehicle, starting with the forward batteries
  10. Installation is the reverse of removal

Batteries should be re-installed “in parallel” Batteries should be installed with positive connecting to positive connecting to positive and negative to negative to negative. Do not install the batteries “in series”.
